There is a specific part of our brain called Anterior Mid-Cingulate Cortex acting as our very own “tenacity muscle”. Apparently, this section of the brain contributes “to better academic achievement, career opportunities and health outcomes”, and can be exercised by doing things you really don’t feel like doing. Not hard things that you like to do, like hitting the gym hard, but things that you dread doing, like hitting the legs hard at the gym.

Although this is a very recent study and only now we’re giving it more attention, studies show some interesting conclusions.

There is no secret that success is forged in hardship and that progress happens well outside of our comfort zone. This is that one extra motivation to consciously incorporate the habit of pushing oneself into the daily routine. Worst case, we’ll get amazing legs in the process.
